The problem with care training
A care rota has no slack in it. Medication administration, hoist use and safeguarding are all mandatory, all high-stakes, and all trained in whatever gaps the rota allows, which in practice means a new carer has read the policy folder once, at speed, on their first morning. Agency staff arrive knowing even less about this home: its residents, its layout, its way of doing the medication round.
How tapybl works for care homes and social care
- Medication, moving and handling, safeguarding and dignity content each become their own short microreel, which retires the single long induction module
- New and agency carers complete the essentials before their first shift
- Policy updates reach every carer at once, with completion and scores recorded per carer
- Completion status and scores are held per carer and can be exported, adding a record of completion and knowledge checks to the evidence you hold for CQC and equivalent inspections
The evidence
A 2018 study published in PLOS ONE compared two groups of employees watching the same short workplace training video, tested a day later. The group that had answered a short question roughly every minute remembered 69.7% of the content; the group that just watched remembered 55.5%. The study wasn’t run in a care setting, but on a medication round the version of the procedure a carer remembers is the one that gets carried out, so recall is worth checking rather than assuming. That’s why every microreel asks questions as it plays; the score it records is an additional record of completion and knowledge checks, alongside the supervision and competence evidence you already keep.

FAQ
What is a microreel?
A microreel is a short, interactive video lesson built for phones — one topic, completed in a few minutes. Hoist use is one microreel. The medication round is another.
Will this satisfy CQC evidence requirements?
tapybl records, per carer, which microreels were completed and the score achieved on the questions inside them, and the data can be exported. That provides an additional record of completion and knowledge checks to sit alongside your supervision and competence evidence. What satisfies an inspector remains their judgement, and a score on its own doesn’t establish competence; it strengthens the completion evidence you already keep.
Can agency staff use it before arriving?
Yes. Send the pathway ahead of the shift and they complete it on their own phone. They walk in having seen your procedures, your layout and your standards.
