The problem with retail training
Head office writes the training. Stores are where it goes to die. A new range lands with a 30-page product guide, and the only computer in the building is in the back office, shared, usually occupied. So the guide gets skimmed by whoever opens up on Tuesday and passed on verbally to everyone else, losing a little accuracy at each retelling. By the weekend, three stores are describing the same product four different ways. Price changes, promotions and seasonal lines all travel the same route, with the same results at the till.
How tapybl works for retail
- Upload the product guide, brand book or POS document you already have; tapybl generates a draft microreel from it, with narration, visuals and questions you can edit before publishing
- When a promotion changes, publish once and every employee in every store gets the same update the same day
- New starters follow a pathway (tills first, then stock, then service standards) with each step taking a few minutes
- Completion and scores are tracked per person in one analytics view, so you can check who has covered the new range before it launches without ringing each store
The evidence
A 2018 study published in PLOS ONE tested what happens when short questions are built into training video, the way tapybl builds them into every microreel. 99 Accenture employees watched a short workplace training video, some with a question roughly every minute, and recall was tested 20 to 35 hours later. The group with embedded questions scored 69.7% against 55.5% without, which is about a quarter better. The study wasn’t run in retail, but it is direct evidence that questions inside workplace video improve next-day recall, and next-day recall is the job store training has to do.

FAQ
What is a microreel?
A microreel is a short, interactive video lesson built for phones — one topic, completed in a few minutes. For retail, that usually means one product line, one procedure or one standard per microreel, rather than a single long induction module.
How do we keep training consistent across stores?
Everything is published centrally, so every store receives identical content at the same time. Analytics show status and score per person for every course in one grid, which replaces asking store managers who has briefed their team.
Do store staff need a company computer or email to use it?
Staff complete microreels on their own phones. There’s no dependency on the back-office PC.
